About the appeal
Menelik the cheetah was found tied up by string in a shop in Ethiopia. The tiny cub was so ill and malnourished he could hardly stand. Fortunately he was rescued by the Ethiopian Wildlife Authority and the Born Free Foundation and nursed back to health. Today this irresistible young cheetah is healthy, affectionate and very mischievous! We want to give him a proper home.To commemorate our wildlife charity's 25th Anniversary we are fundraising to build a major Wildlife Rescue, Conservation and Education Centre near Addis Ababa, Ethiopia's captial. Here on a 77-hectare site we'll create a large, natural habitat enclosure for Menelik to share with Sheba, another rescued male cheetah. We'll also give a home to Dolo, Andrea and Janu, three rescued young lions, and other wild animals saved from trade and in need of care.
"Please, sponsor a tile and together we'll build the new Rescue Centre. Helping animals and inspiring people - now that really would be an Anniversary achievement worth celebrating! Thank you." Virginia McKenna, Born Free Founder & Trustee
About The Born Free Foundation
The Born Free Foundation is a dynamic international wildlife charity, founded by Virginia McKenna and Bill Travers following their starring roles in the classic film 'Born Free'. Today, led by their son, Will Travers, Born Free takes action worldwide for wild animal welfare and compassionate conservation. From small beginnings, Born Free has grown into a global force for wildlife and 2009 is our 25th anniversary year. Born Free believes wildlife belongs in the wild and works to phase-out zoos and stop captive animal exploitation. Born Free rescues individuals from lives of misery in tiny cages and gives them lifetime care in spacious sanctuaries. Born Free protects threatened species including lions, elephants, tigers, gorillas, wolves, bears, marine turtles and many more in their natural habitat, working with local communities to help people and wildlife live together without conflict.
